Teaching Youth Financial Literacy
Finance Your Freedom engages youth especially to learn about financial literacy and money management skills. In a world where we are expected to make financial decisions before adulthood, it is imperative we prepare this generation to do so. Finance Your Freedom reaches young people throughout Maryland through collaboration with the Maryland State Board of Education, advocacy with the founder’s pageant platform and various schools, and education in an original developed curriculum used in workshops hosted every 1-2 weeks.
“I booked an acting gig in elementary school, and earned my very first pay check. Although, not understanding the significance of that piece of paper, I spent it quicker than it had came to me. Maryland schools don’t teach a standalone life finance course, leaving children and teenagers unprepared going into adulthood. Being a teenager myself now, I’ve created this initiative, Finance Your Freedom, to enable my generation to take control of their futures and be self-sufficient when faced with a financial decision. I ensure that young people—especially young women—enter adulthood not feeling overwhelmed by money, but empowered by it. Because when we teach teens how to understand their finances today, we give them the freedom to build the futures they deserve tomorrow”
